  • Jamie Gomez: Secretary (Founding Member)

Jamie Gomez has worked for national Native non-profits for over 20 years, supporting tribes and tribal citizens. Currently, Jamie is the Chief Operating Officer at the National Indian Health Board and previously worked at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI).

Jamie started serving Indian Country on a national level when she was in college, serving on her tribal council as the student representative. While attending her first national meeting she met other Native youth working to establish a permanent place for young people within NCAI. After a year and a half the group was successful in getting a resolution passed for the creation of the NCAI Youth Commission.

Years later Jamie and her family moved to the Washington D.C. area and happily found their current home in Cheverly. The family has participated in activities throughout the years in town, such as Boys and Girls Club, Cheverly Soccer Club, and Cub Scouts. Since the boys start of school at Weekday Nursery and then Saint Ambrose School, Jamie would visit their classrooms to share about their Tlingit culture with the boys’ classmates just like her mother used to do when she was a child.

Jamie is a proud wife of a retired Army Veteran and mother of two boys who are now in college. Her oldest son is attending his fourth year of college at Northeastern University and her youngest is a freshman at Roanoke College. Jamie and her boys are members of the Tlingit and Haida Tribe of Alaska, as well as members of the L'ukwaax.ádi clan.

Sarahrose Greco: Co-Chair Education and Outreach Pillar Committee (Founding Member)

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

Sarahrose has lived in Cheverly since she was 4 years old. She attended Gladys Noon Spellman K-2nd grade and then St. Ambrose 3rd -8th grade. She is an alumnus of Bishop McNamara High School, a school where numerous teachers and even the former principal reside in Cheverly for the same reason her parents chose to move here: to raise their kids in a tight-knit community. Growing up she did what it seemed like all the kids in the neighborhood did: she played sports for the Boys and Girls Club, babysat for many families, and belonged to the Cheverly Pool. She thought the small bubble she grew up in was how everyone grew up. Once she went to Penn State University for college, she realized many people did not grow up in a town like Cheverly, much less an area as unique as Prince Georges County. Sarahrose is a middle school math teacher in Montgomery County, where she sees just how important it is to have a small community bubble when it comes to the development and growth of our children. Knowing your neighbors matters. As a teacher knowing your community matters. Knowing the history of the land you live on matters.

Sarahrose is excited to be on the Mount Hope Commission board to bring awareness to Cheverly residents about the history of our town and to bring neighbors together to create a positive change.
