Mount Hope Commission Book Club

The Mount Hope Commission (MHC) welcomes you to join the MHC Book Club.  Our mission is to facilitate community healing and reconciliation.  We believe that understanding and reckoning with our national and local histories is a cornerstone to building a community in which all are embraced and uplifted.

The MHC also believes that information is empowering.  By providing opportunities for residents to educate themselves and have meaningful discussions about topics around race, equity, and social justice, we empower our community to be introspective.  Introspection is critical to building a just society.

High quality, carefully vetted books focusing on African American and American Indian histories, related Maryland history, and social and racial justice are selected for participants to read and discuss.  The book clubs are facilitated by an MHC board member and are held periodically throughout the year, either virtually or at a location to be determined.  Announcements for upcoming book club selections are made via the MHC Book Club e-mail list, the MHC website, the Cheverly Newsletter, town-related social media platforms and other communications vehicles.
